All of the B-Max’s engines are reasonably economical. The 1.6-litre petrol is claimed to average 44.4mpg, the 1.4-litre petrol 47.1mpg. The EcoBoost engines average 55.4mpg and 57.5mpg respectively. As you’d expect, the diesels are the ones with the highest claimed economy.

EcoBlue is Ford’s proprietary name for its latest generation of diesel engines. EcoBlue engines come in 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre sizes, producing between 105 and 240hp, with both the 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre available with different power outputs. The name EcoBlue follows on from Ford’s EcoBoost petrol engines.

The Focus ECOnetic 1.5 TDCi has an official combined NEDC fuel economy figure of 83.1mpg, equating to emissions of 88g/km CO2. This sounds amazing, but as we know, this isn’t what you’ll get in real-life driving. However, even our real-life economy was excellent – after a week of mixed driving we averaged 67.2mpg.
